Watertown is South Dakota's 4th largest city located along I-29 and US 212 in Northeastern South Dakota covering a total area of 59.8 km² (23.1 mi²) of which 39.4 km² (15.2 mi²) of it is land and 20.4 km² (7.9 mi²) of it (34.04%) is water Watertown sits on the Big Sioux River and two major lakes, Lake Pelican and Lake Kampeska. Most of Watertown also sits upon a short plateau.
