Introduction South Dakota is ranked 46th among the 50 states of U.S. and was admitted to the United States union in 1889 as the 40th state. South Dakota is state located in the Midwestern region of United States. The executive branch of South Dakota is led by the Governor of South Dakota. The constitution of South Dakota gives the governor the power to either sign into law or veto bills passed by the state legislature and the authority to servers as the commander-in-chief of South Dakota National Guard. The General Assembly of South Dakota comprises of 35-members in Senate and 70-members in House of Representatives elected by voting two representatives and one senator per district. The South Dakota judicial branch is made up of several levels. The state Supreme Court is the highest court in the state and consists of one chief justice and four justices. Other courts like circuit courts exist in 38-districts. Below the circuit courts which deals with minor criminal and civil cases.
